Let us take you away to the wonderful world of illustrator Redmer Hoekstra. For Heinen Delfts Blauw this humorous and philosophical artist created a collection of Delft blue wall plates, including this one with a pile of zebras and a lazy pig with his piglets. You recognize the wall plates immediately by their dreamy illustrations. A bold collection of surrealistic animals that march, swim or roll their way into the world of Heinen Delfts Blauw. The zebras are having a hard time, being piled up like a tower of Delft blue soup bowls. Only the bottom zebra has his legs free to stand on and to carry the burden. The lazy pig on top with his three piglets doesn’t seem to mind at all, as long as they are moving in the right direction. Or perhaps you see a whole different story in this setting. The physical discomfort of the pile of zebras is a recurring theme in Redmer his work, it is a source of his humour. For Redmer the biggest challenge was to bring his oddball world together with the world of Heinen Delfts Blauw. “I used Delft blue products from the Heinen collection as a starting point for my illustrations and I created my world around them. Odd shapes such as the tulip vase and beautiful Delft blue patterns inspired me. I wanted to make every illustration different and yet let all characters on the plates live in the same world. This way they can shine on their own, but they also go perfectly well together.” Pick one wall plate to draw attention to on your wall, or combine the entire collection together for a wall filled with humour on which you continue to find new funny details.
