Let us take you away to the wonderful world of illustrator Redmer Hoekstra. For Heinen Delfts Blauw this humorous and philosophical artist created a collection of Delft blue wall plates, including this one with a beaver and a group of partying penguins. You recognize the wall plates immediately by their dreamy illustrations. A bold collection of surrealistic animals that march, swim or roll their way into the world of Heinen Delfts Blauw. The beaver slowly continues his path, while the penguins are having a party on his back. Diving, gliding and even chilling inside a warm Delft blue cup of coffee. Oh yeah and don’t forget the outstretched beaks of the ducks that are being used as diving boards. This is all completely nomal in the world of Redmer Hoekstra. Or perhaps you see a whole different story in this setting. The physical discomfort of the beaver is a recurring theme in Redmer his work, it is a source of his humour. For Redmer the biggest challenge was to bring his oddball world together with the world of Heinen Delfts Blauw. “I used Delft blue products from the Heinen collection as a starting point for my illustrations and I created my world around them. Odd shapes such as the tulip vase and beautiful Delft blue patterns inspired me. I wanted to make every illustration different and yet let all characters on the plates live in the same world. This way they can shine on their own, but they also go perfectly well together.” Pick one wall plate to draw attention to on your wall, or combine the entire collection together for a wall filled with humour on which you continue to find new funny details.
