Let us take you away to the wonderful world of illustrator Redmer Hoekstra. For Heinen Delfts Blauw this humorous and philosophical artist created a collection of Delft blue wall plates, including this one with a broody duck who is being marched forwards by an army of owls. You recognize the wall plates immediately by their dreamy illustrations. A bold collection of surrealistic animals that march, swim or roll their way into the world of Heinen Delfts Blauw. This broody duck is resting on a Delft blue plate, carried forward by an army of curious looking owls. Her eggs are exchanged for Delft blue egg cups, but she doesn’t seem to mind. Or perhaps you see a whole different story in this setting. The physical discomfort of the overwhelmed duck is a recurring theme in Redmer his work, it is a source of his humour. For Redmer the biggest challenge was to bring his oddball world together with the world of Heinen Delfts Blauw. “I used Delft blue products from the Heinen collection as a starting point for my illustrations and I created my world around them. Odd shapes such as the tulip vase and beautiful Delft blue patterns inspired me. I wanted to make every illustration different and yet let all characters on the plates live in the same world. This way they can shine on their own, but they also go perfectly well together.” Pick one wall plate to draw attention to on your wall, or combine the entire collection together for a wall filled with humour on which you continue to find new funny details.
