Laura Ashley, one of the world's most popular designers of fashion and upholstery fabrics, was once small and humble. In the early 1950s, after seeing an exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum, she was inspired to create small patchwork motifs of her own. With a small investment of £ 10, Laura and Bernard started printing simple mono designs for kitchen textiles on the kitchen table.
